Killing of the Emperor!

Britain’s largest wild animal the 9 foot 300 lbs. deer named Exmoor Emperor was hunted down and killed days after it first appeared in the national press. The suspected murder (called by some) of the Emperor has not been identified and most likely will not be because of media attention around the story. This recent hunting of the Emperor has caused uproar of many animal rights activist that are saying the death of the Emperor is tragic and morally wrong. Others are upset that the hunter was not even from the area rather a trophy hunter from Europe.

To me it doesn’t matter who killed the deer and I feel that these people who are saying that this killing was morally wrong are just fighting a battle that is already lost. If the local people or government wanted to keep this deer alive they would have taken it into captivity or put it on a wildlife reserve where it could be closely monitored. Hunting is a way of life and a deer of this size and age is something that many people would like to hunt. I would have liked a chance at this guy and yes I would have put him over my fireplace and displayed him proudly. I’m not saying that hunting just for the trophy is good I believe that you should eat what you kill. If the hunter that got this deer doesn’t eat or give the meat away then this killing is sad and would cast a bad light on deer hunting. I don’t think that this is the case though since the deer weighed more than 300lbs. and I doubt that amount of meat would be wasted so easily.

The owner of the land where the Emperor usually lives insists that it was not killed on their property. Other local’s say that the price on the Emperor was upwards of $1,900 and that was probably what brought hunters looking for the massive deer. This isn’t even the first time that a large deer has been killed in this same area. A deer named Bruno was killed a while back ago once his name got out just like the Emperor. I don’t understand what these people are trying to accomplish it’s a never ending process. A deer gets really big, they tell people about it, and then someone shoots it and they get angry. Once a deer gets to the size of the Emperor someone is going to want to hunt it. They can’t change the nature of people and instead of casting a negative light on the whole situation the people of the area should be proud of their region since it produces such large deer.
